There are several natural remedies for allergies that can help alleviate symptoms:

Neti pot: A neti pot is a small pot used to flush out the nasal passages with a saline solution. This can help alleviate nasal congestion caused by allergies.

  • First, fill the neti pot with warm water and add salt to create a saline solution. The ratio of salt to water should be about 1 teaspoon of salt per 2 cups of water.

  • Tilt your head to one side over a sink and insert the spout of the neti pot into the upper nostril. Make sure the spout fits snugly in your nostril.

  • Slowly pour the saline solution into the upper nostril. The water will flow through the nasal passages and out of the other nostril.

  • Blow your nose gently to remove any remaining water and mucus.

  • Repeat the process on the other side, tilting your head to the opposite side and inserting the spout into the other nostril.

Neti pots are often used to relieve nasal congestion caused by allergies, sinus infections, or other nasal issues. They can help to flush out irritants and allergens, reduce inflammation, and soothe nasal tissues. However, it is important to use distilled or sterilized water to avoid the risk of infection, and to follow proper hygiene practices when using a neti pot.

Quercetin: Quercetin is a natural flavonoid that has anti-inflammatory properties. It can be found in foods like onions, apples, herbs, and berries or taken as a supplement.

  • Anti-inflammatory effects: Quercetin has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in the body. Allergies are characterized by inflammation in the nasal passages, lungs, and other areas of the body. By reducing inflammation, quercetin may help to alleviate allergy symptoms.

  • Histamine release: Histamine is a chemical released by the body in response to allergens. It causes the classic allergy symptoms of sneezing, runny nose, and itchy eyes. Quercetin has been shown to inhibit the release of histamine, which may help to reduce allergy symptoms.

  • Antioxidant properties: Quercetin is also a potent antioxidant, which means that it can help to protect cells from damage caused by free radicals. This may help to reduce inflammation and improve overall immune function, which could help to alleviate allergy symptoms.

Vitamin C: Vitamin C is a natural antihistamine that can help alleviate allergy symptoms. It can be found in foods like citrus fruits, bell peppers, and kiwi or taken as a supplement.

Local honey: Eating local honey can help alleviate seasonal allergies by exposing your body to small amounts of the pollen that causes allergies in your area.

  • Honey has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which could help to reduce inflammation in the nasal passages and lungs caused by allergies.

Essential oils: Certain essential oils like lavender, peppermint, and eucalyptus can help alleviate allergy symptoms when used in a diffuser or diluted in a carrier oil and applied topically.

  • Some essential oils, such as lavender and chamomile, have anti-inflammatory properties that may help to reduce inflammation in the nasal passages and lungs caused by allergies.

  • Certain essential oils, such as peppermint and eucalyptus, are known for their decongestant properties. Inhaling these oils can help to open up the airways and improve breathing.

  • Some essential oils, such as basil and lemon, are believed to have antihistamine properties, which could help to reduce the release of histamine in the body and alleviate allergy symptoms.

Please note that essential oils are highly concentrated volatile plant oils. They should be properly diluted before use, and never diffused around cats. Some oils are not safe for use on children or around dogs as well.

Probiotics: Probiotics can help boost the immune system and reduce inflammation, which can help alleviate allergy symptoms. They can be found in foods like yogurt, kefir, and sauerkraut, kombucha, or taken as a supplement.

  • Probiotics can help to regulate the immune system by promoting the development of certain immune cells that are involved in controlling inflammation and allergies.

  • Probiotics have anti-inflammatory properties and can help to reduce inflammation in the body. This may help to alleviate allergy symptoms, which are often characterized by inflammation in the nasal passages, lungs, and other areas of the body.

  • The gut microbiome plays an important role in immune function, and an imbalance in the microbiome has been linked to a variety of health issues, including allergies. Probiotics can help to restore balance to the gut microbiome, which may help to improve overall immune function and reduce allergy symptoms.

Not all probiotics are created equal, and the strains and dosages that are effective for allergies may vary depending on the individual. Food-based sources of probiotics, such as fermented foods, are superior to supplement forms.

Chiropractic care: Spinal manipulation can help to improve nerve function and enhance the body's ability to fight off infections and allergens.

  • Chiropractors may use a variety of techniques, such as massage or stretching, to help reduce inflammation in the body. This may help to alleviate allergy symptoms, which are often characterized by inflammation in the nasal passages, lungs, and other areas of the body.

  • Chiropractors may also use techniques such as meditation or breathing exercises to help patients reduce stress, which can be a trigger for allergy symptoms.

It's important to note that while these natural remedies can be effective for some people, they may not work for everyone. Every person's body responds to various treatments differently. It's always a good idea to speak with a healthcare provider before trying any new remedies, especially if you have a history of allergies or other medical conditions.
